Greed out of Control

Image
An older note in this blog ( here ) described how greed is at the root of much evil in the world. Perhaps it has always been so since the beginning of human civilization but its extent has varied with time and place. I am now well past sixty. During my lifetime I have witnessed greed grow exponentially in the countries that I have lived and worked in, especially over the last two decades. This greed is spread across the spectrum of society from corporations, crime networks and even governments. Everywhere the story may be summarized in this somewhat silly ditty, Gimme, gimme, more, more gimme from shore to shore In the gutter there is more like a pig, my hunger grows Many a corporation will use tricks and lies to trap customers into goods and services that they do not need. It is an unethical practice and customers must shun such corporations with all the contempt they deserve for when greed is unchecked it grows. As regards governments, citizens of democratic

When the World is up for Profit

Image
Inspired by thoughts of God and the state of the world W ith the failure of communism, the world was left with an economic system that runs on profit, something called capitalism. However, while killing incentives for humans to strive produces bad results as in communism, the consequences of an unregulated race for profits can be worse and produces huge suffering in the world. While this has led to rising economic inequality in the largest economy of the world USA and despite its riches, hunger amongst some of its children and homelessness for some on its streets, it has also directly or indirectly led to huge suffering in other parts of the world such as the one being witnessed in Gaza, Syria, Iraq and Yemen; aside from periodic financial crisis in the largest economy of the world that reverberate around the world forcing more families into poverty and more children into hunger. The solution for mankind lies not in killing free enterprise but in killing greed whenever

Most Human problems are because of Greed, some from violence and wrath of God

Wars are fun, you crazy un ? It helps us sell a gun. T here are many problems around the world arising from sickness, poverty, homelessness, refugees, wars etc. It does not take much analysis to deduce that uncontrolled and excessive greed is at the root of it. Take for example rising economic inequalities around the world over the last three decades. At the root of this is the greed of corporations for huge profits and their managers for huge compensations. If one considers wars, at the root of many are the greed of arms industries to sell arms or greed of some countries or individuals to maintain greedy advantage. The growth of large unmanageable cities with poor quality of life is because of greed too. Homelessness is because of the greed of the rich not to release more in taxes to create shelters and the hell that earth may soon be converted into by global warming is because of the greed to cut down  trees that God planted on Earth.  The use of violence by humans to meet

The American Crisis - children on the borders

Image
American Crisis C hildren scared out of their wits are fleeing their homes, even two year old children, a violence fueled by War against Drugs that appears to have been initiated and encouraged by America, not just in Central America but around the world by pressing unwilling governments such as those in India to classify cannabis as an illegal drug, a herb that has been held as divine for thousands of years. Prior to 1985 many a poor farmer under distress from debt and drought calmed himself with a drink or smoke of cannabis. Now he commits suicide instead to the howls and wails of his screaming children and wife left behind. Alcohol is not an option, it is considered a crime causing and addictive poison in many an Indian village, which in fact is true. Thank you America but the world is not surprised when you can do it to your own Veterans who defended your country and now suffer from PTSD, compel them to ruin their guts and livers for big pharma profit perha

A Brief Introduction to the Economics of Greed and Exploitation

Image
Economics of Greed and Exploitation E ver since the financial crisis of 2008,  economic news from around the world has been enlightening. From time to time, my reaction to some of the reports have been published as blog posts. Recently I combined some of the more important ones into a single document. After editing, what emerged was a brief booklet of fifty pages entitled ‘A Brief Introduction to the Economics of Greed and Exploitation’.     I tend to regard anything under 75 pages as a booklet rather than a book although the publishers tend to classify it as the latter. The booklet is published in full color so that some of the associated color graphics could be included from earlier blog posts that seem to have inspired changes from Japan to Switzerland and also perhaps USA and parts of Europe. The contents consist of seven chapters. The Blogger editor does not seem to reproduce tables faithfully but nevertheless I have copied and posted it here for whatever it is worth. Th
