A Permanent Solution to Refugee Problem of Europe and USA
Presently the immigration issues are back in central focus
with a ship carrying some six hundred refugees being turned away from Italian
shores and finding refuge in Spain, while on American borders the world is
horrified in seeing children being torn away from parents, some babies, while their parents are sent to private
prisons. While solutions to these issues will be debated and discussed
endlessly just as they have been for the past several years, some temporary
solutions found, as presently for the ship in Spain, the problem shall continue
until its root cause is dealt with. The present note is about these root causes
and the solution.
First, the refugee influx into Europe, it arises from
instabilities and violence in Middle East and Africa. It will stop effectively
when this turmoil stops to conditions as prevailed before WWII in these
countries when relative peace prevailed. At the center of the Middle Eastern
Crisis is the Israel-Palestinian problem. Around it are problems created later
by interventions from Libya to Afghanistan. If Europe works towards solving
these issues then peace shall return to these regions and the refugee outflow
stop. Should Europe do this? It sure should since it has contributed to
creating these problems. They have been helped by Australia and USA in this
problem creation but it is not these latter countries that are facing the
refugee problem from these regions. Hence it is Europe that shall have to take
the lead in solving this issue. The sooner it does it, the better it will be
for its future.
Second the problem of a refugee influx into US from Central
America. The way to solve this is for US to work actively to end violence and
crime in those countries and that implies ending the failed drug war. It
implies legalizing drugs and using the spending presently on drug wars to
educate and rehabilitate people. Even if some people still die from drug abuse
it shall be far less than deaths from drug violence now and far more peaceful.
This will need active work by US because it seems the bureaucracy, police and
governments of these countries now have a vested interest in keeping the drug
war going, They get a share of the profits. Should US do it? For sure it should
since it is at US instigation these drug wars started in the first place.
The two solutions as stated in this brief post are the
permanent solution to the refugee problem Will they take place? Unlikely,
because Europe and US is run by democratic politicians and most of them look at
their bank accounts before peace in the world perhaps.
